The property at 505 Bayou Drive (known at the time as the ‘Eiland House’) was purchased by Deborah Butler in March 2009. After many years of renovation starts and stops, changes of intent, as well as a fire, fire marshal approval was received to begin having events at Somerset Tea Room and Venue on March 20, 2020 – the weekend Louisiana ‘shut down’ due to coronavirus.
Two years later, July, 2022, Somerset was open for business!
The name Somerset has a special place in the hearts of the Butlers. Somerset plantation, near Newellton, LA is where many of the elders from the Jones side of the family were born and is where many are buried. Also, St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Somerset plantation is where the venue's founder and many relatives began their journey as believers of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
